Toyota of Danville knows that tires are one of the most important features on your car. Tires are what you depend on to stop your car, swerve away from an accident, and keep you going down the road safely. The small piece of rubber between your families safety and the road is very important and that is why you should always keep them properly inflated and rotated.
Why does a Tire Blow out?
When tires fail, it is sometimes difficult to figure out why the trouble happened and who is responsible. Is it the manufacturer’s fault or maybe it’s the installer’s mistake? As a result of tire-failure accidents being on the rise with little responsibility to go around, many car companies have been forced to toughen tire safety standards. Motor Authority said safety standards in the European Union are about to become stricter with the introduction of new mandates. Some of the new rules being considered include the fitment of advanced low-noise tires, electronic stability control and some kind of tire pressure monitoring systems as standard features to new models. The tire monitoring system standard, according to the Federal Motor Vehicle Standards, specifies performance requirements for tire pressure-monitoring systems to warn drivers of an under-inflated tire. This standard applies to all passenger cars, trucks and buses of 10,000 lbs. or less. Toyota of Danville uses only the top tires and tire pressure is closely monitored along with the wear of your tires.
Do tires increase gas mileage?
Tire under-inflation is the leading cause of tire failure. On the other hand, fully inflated tires mean less rolling resistance.
Now there are those who over-inflate their tires “to get better gas mileage “. However, over-inflating your tires will also have negative impact on the “footprint” or “contact area” of your tires on the road. Indeed, whereas under-inflating tires causes an increased, inefficient contact area with all the negative consequences as those mentioned above (and more); over-inflating tires will negatively reduce contact area, causing it to be too small for your tires to grip the road as effectively as possible. Furthermore, over-inflating your tires will also cause improper tread wear patterns, along with premature tire wear, costing you that much more because of having to buy new tires quicker.
Staying Safe
Keeping tires in good condition will not only save your wallet, it could save your life. The United States NHTSA estimates that 10,000 injuries could be prevented by monitoring tire pressure. People should always remember that a relatively thin piece of rubber separates their car from the road beneath them. So a driver must take part in ensuring their safety with well-inspected and well-inflated tires.
At Toyota of Danville we know that the tires that carry your family from place to place are the most important things on the road. Our service technicians make sure that your tires are rotated balance and safe for your family to ride. Don’t take chances with tires as they are only thing that keeps your car off the road!
